The long road goodnight

January 1st, 2006

Wow, who would have thought there is a lot of nothing between Cambria and Las Vegas. We headed out after breakfast and drove out from the coast. It was raining for most of the trip. Until we got over the Tehachapi Pass, the rain didn’t let up.

It’s pretty funny that I grew up and lived in the Mohave desert for seven years and worked on the Space Shuttle in 1984 and never made it out to Edwards air-force base. This was the first time I have driven by it.

After two stops for gas and one for food, we finally made it to Las Vegas.

Now I know how Dionysus Feels!

Today we embarked on our full day of wine tasting. We took a tour so that we didn’t have to worry about directions of drinking too much.

We stopped at five wineries as well as a nice little frech bistro for lunch. I was really surprised that Angie didn’t turn away any of the red wine tastings. Maybe she is developing a broader pallet 😉

We found several wines we each liked and one wine we both agreed we liked. All in all it was a fun, festive day.

Cheese, Wine and Crackers! Oh My! And Salami Too!

We made it to Cambria. got here a little later than I wanted to, so it was dark when we got here. We found out way to our hotel. Stayed at the Fog Catcher Inn.

The really cool thing is they were able to get us on the wine tour trip for the next day. This was one of the main reason we came back to Cambria. They had cancelled the wine tour about two weeks earlier.

We checked into our room. It has a fantastic view of the ocean and a nice gas fireplace. We popped over to the store and picked up some Wine, Cheese , Salami and crackers. We went back to the room and cracked open the wine, and ate until we were stuffed. Thank goodness for my trusty swiss army knife.

If your thinking of buying an FM modulator for your mp3/portable player, don’t waste your money.

They don’t work. Better to spend your money on a new head unit with an aux input.

Well I am sitting in my wife’s mustang typing away on the mac. I am using my borrowed EVDO card from work and figured I would see how well it worked. I need to add to my geek points, so I figued what better to do it than surf the internet at 70 mile per hour.

For the most part it works great. The latency can be a pain though when your waiting for a page to load. Around Santa Barbara I lost signal, but it didn’t last for long.

About to go through a tunnel, we will see if the signal stays!

Yea! It did. Signal went to zero, but then came back. I didn’t get bumped from my dial up though.

well back to sight seeing before I cause Angie to crash.
