I have given in…

April 13th, 2006

Ok, so I did something that I didn’t think I would. I gave up and put a down payment on a Toyota Camry Hybrid that I may or may not ever get.

I have no problem with giving them a deposit so that I can reserve a vehicle that has a VIN number assigned to me, but there is no guarantee that I will ever receive a vehicle.

After waiting almost a year to get them to call me with the Prius, I have given up and given in…

I am 36 on the waiting list and the vehicles should start arriving at the end of May.

Has it really been that long?

April 12th, 2006

So with our 15 year wedding anniversary right around the corner (May 4th for those that don’t know) we have decided to do a driving vacation. It has been a LONG time since we have done this sort of trip. The last time we did that was our ten day 2700 mile trip through New England.

This year we are planning to drive to Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota. With stops along the way to visit the national parks and historical sites. So far we are looking the following itinerary:

San Diego, Ca to Las Vegas, NV
Las Vegas, NV to Cedar City, UT
Cedar City, UT to Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City, UT to Jackson, WY
Jackson, WY to Yellowstone
Yellowstone
Yellowstone to Billings, MT
Billings, MT to Keystone, SD
Mt Rushmore
Mt Rushmore
Keystone, SD to Denver, CO
Denver, CO to Arches National Park
Arches National Park to Bryce Canyon
Bryce Canyon to Las Vegas, NV
Las Vegas, NV to San Diego

We plan to do some really exciting stuff with some of my new tech toys. More on that later.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

April 12th, 2006

Well I have been away for a few days working my butt off on a number of things. I decided to get out and clear the ground around our redwood trees so I can start fixing up my garden railway. I decided rather than tie this section of the line to the entire project, I need to just get a simple loop running. It is amazing how much better the ground looks all cleared. I did run into a problem… If you cover the root ball of a redwood tree it has the tendency to grow out and up. This creates a large forest of little redwood fingers. I need to uncover the root ball so this doesn’t happen again.

I am still struggling with the pond. Again it is not getting enough water flow to keep the filter full. I am not sure what I will do as we are planning to be out of town for a few weeks. (more on that later). I bought some screening material to keep the fish out and will try to get that installed later this week.

Some of you know, I am planning to go back to school and get my masters. I have been frustrated with the fact my work would not pay for a degree in my field at the school I wanted. The only school available was USD, but it would end up costing me more money than I wanted to spend. I finally decided to see about going to school part time to get the entire program paid for by work.

Unfortunately yesterday, I learned they no longer are offering a Masters in IT. Not only did this completely deflate all my momentum, but now there is NO school in San Diego that offers a degree in MS/IT. I have no idea what I am going to do now. Because my goal is to change careers and teach, I may just go to school and get a teaching credential. So for now, I am just mostly depressed and frustrated.

We are back on track with the pool. I got my quote, but it seemed higher than I expected. I am working back and forth with the contractor about it, but should get it straightened out this week. We are going to finish the hard-scape planning before the end of the month, so I will feel much better once I am on their schedule for the pool remodel.

safety AND gas mileage

Looking at this for a new commute car.

So much for a pitchers duel.

April 7th, 2006

Well tonight was not what you would call a pitchers duel. It was pretty good in the first 5 innings, but after that it was hit after hit. Oh well! You have to expect that every once in a while.
