Well I have had my new TV for a week now. I have been learning tons of new things. Things like HDMI multipath sync, ground loops, IR latency delays.
First off, the TV picture rocks. I didn’t realize how much wider than my old TV it was. The unit has speakers on the sides so that increases the width. This also allowed me to get rid of the component cabinet. But I had to find a new stand. Samsung has one designed just for this TV.
I had to call all over the country, but nobody had it in stock, or they wanted too much to ship. I knew that Circuit City had the stand I wanted, so I called them up and they still had a floor unit. I went in and discovered the still had one in stock unopened. I took it home and set it up. It took about ten minutes.
The cable management rocks. When I am done it will be hard to see any cables. It’s just a small pain to work with, because I have to pull out the TV out to get to the connectors. This requires a small bit of strength as this is a very heavy TV.
With all the rewiring and new equipment I ended up with a 60cycle hum. This turned out to be a ground loop with the analog ports on my audiotron. A trip to radio shack and $18 later I have a cable to isolate the ground loop.
The next issue I had was with a sound sync problem. I turns out hdmi pairs audio and video on the same wire. I want my audio over fiber to my stereo. The fiber path is faster than the hdmi so it had a 60ms+ delay. This was too much to listen to. I do not have a solution yet, just a work around that is not ideal. When I have time I will call the cable company and Samsung.
Lastly I bought a universal remote. I settled on the Logitech Harmony 880 remote. The remote rocks as well. It does have one problem. Using my PVR I fast forward and when I hit play the PVR takes a second or two before it stops. I am working with logitech currently but it is slow going. So far the fixes they have provided do not solve the problem.
