Sweet Tooth

Filed under: Items in the Pensieve — Darkavich @ 3:01 am

Well for the last few weeks I have been nursing a temperature sensitive tooth. Today, I finally made it to the dentist and had it taken care of. Of course, it needed a root canal. I have had this done before in the past and it was quite painful and an experience I don’t recommend to my enemies.(not that I have any).

Technology has come quite a long way since my last one. I was in and out of the office in about an hour while prior ones had taken three hours or longer. The only real pain I had was the first shot of Novocain.

On the way home I had to stop at the grocery store and discovered to my surprise that they have started carrying “Toffifay” again! This brings me WAY back to the ’80s. They now ship in a QTY 15 package, I dare you to just eat one. Now I am just waiting for the stores to start carrying YooHoo’s again with the cork bottle caps.

There are changes on the horizon for me. Check back for some updates.

There is still customer service in America!

As some of you know I love to cook 😉

I purchased a Kitchen Aid Stand mixer a few years ago and absolutely love it. You have never had great italian food unless you have had pasta made from scratch.

A few months back I was using a brand new attachment and when I put the food in for the first time the unit stopped working. It made a horrible grinding and clicking sound. It appears to have stripped the horizontal gears. So, none of my attachments worked anymore. .

I contacted Kitchen Aid through their web site about getting it repaired, but they don’t have a service center close enough. I was told I could pay $32 for a shipping kit to return the unit back for repair. I put it off for a few months.

Well, today I decided to call them and get it repaired. I explained what happened to the woman on the phone. I was all ready with my credit card to have them ship me the kit and have it repaired. She put me on hold for a few minutes (which I thought was strange).

When she came back, she collected all of my information then told me that they would be replacing the unit (FOR FREE)!!!! She explained that they have a attachment guarantee and that since using the new attachment caused the damage they will replace the unit with a new one.

So they are shipping me a new unit! After all the bad experiences I have had with other companies, I am pleasantly surprised and pleased. I will definitely be looking at their appliances over other brands when shopping from now on.

imap/ssl

Filed under: Muggle Tech — Darkavich @ 1:49 pm

Well I finally got a around to installing ssl/imap. That’s not the interesting part 😉

I wanted to change the name of the daemon from imapd to imapsd. That’s where all my frustration started. Long story short… if you change the name of the binary, you need to also need to change the name of the file that holds the certificates.

In this case “/usr/local/ssl/certs” needed a file called imapsd.pem. I just created a sym-link to the imapd.pem file and all started working again.

Nowhere is this clearly documented. I was able to figure out the issue with this trusty truss command: truss -f -d -a -e -v all -p PID
