A step up

Filed under: Projects — Darkavich @ 7:31 pm

We got tired of having to step down out of the back door, so we installed a step. It doesn’t look as good in the photo as it does in person.

The pavers were cut around all the pipes for the BBQ. Once it is sanded, it will be solid fit. To be safe, I will still strap it to the inside of the BBQ.

Here are some additional pictures of the work done so far.

The pavers arrived and they started unloading

pavers

It’s amazing how big they look on pallets, you think they have way too many stones, but as they start laying them you realize they have enough.

A base is laid down that is made of crushed concrete. On top of that is laid sand. You can see how they level out the sand below:

please take away all that water

With the new pavers being installed, we wanted to make sure that there was no water pools that would form, so we installed new drainage. This turned out to be a lot of trouble.

We wanted to put extra drainage near the bbq area, but when the trenches were dug, we had to move several pipes. In doing so, we nicked another pipe. This last one turned out to be the hardest one to repair. I ended up tearing up a six foot segment and redoing the entire pipe.

Although this was a lot of trouble, this will really help keep the water from pooling up on the pavers and washing away the sand.

Having worked digging and trenching the yard I sure wish the spa was done. It’s going to be at least two more weeks before it’s complete.

The new border around the spa has been installed

He who casts the first stone

At last! We found a company that can install pavers and actually provides quotes and shows up on time. The company we are using is Western Pavers.

We have decided on a Belgard Pavers. They have a dublin cobble in the Sahara color. You can look at them here

They are doing the install this Wednesday and will be done by Friday! Now that fast! Hopefully their work will be top notch. From what we have seen of their work, it should be.
