Apple must be owned by Sony!

There are serious reports of spyware being installed by Apple’s new itunes software.

You can read it about it here

In this article, they state that Apple is serious about your privacy. This is the same company that had a EULA that said anything you uploaded to their website via .mac became their property and you could see vacation slides end up in the next Apple commercial without your permission or owed royalties.

It’s crap like this that make me want to go slap someone. Some developer in the back room is making these decisions without review or legal analysis. This is why open source software should be all you support or buy. At least then we can review the source code and find this sort of stuff.

Apple is now promoting their new Intel laptop.

The price is good, but I will be damned if I am going to buy all my software for a third time. If this platform is going to be successful, it will need to be able to run all OSX software.

If your thinking of buying an FM modulator for your mp3/portable player, don’t waste your money.

They don’t work. Better to spend your money on a new head unit with an aux input.

Well I am sitting in my wife’s mustang typing away on the mac. I am using my borrowed EVDO card from work and figured I would see how well it worked. I need to add to my geek points, so I figued what better to do it than surf the internet at 70 mile per hour.

For the most part it works great. The latency can be a pain though when your waiting for a page to load. Around Santa Barbara I lost signal, but it didn’t last for long.

About to go through a tunnel, we will see if the signal stays!

Yea! It did. Signal went to zero, but then came back. I didn’t get bumped from my dial up though.

well back to sight seeing before I cause Angie to crash.

EyeHome (A misserable failure)

I had great hopes for this tool. It is a device that lets you play video/audio/photos from your mac. The concept is perfect; the implimentation is horrible.

It has a remote that is impossible to understand. I had to keep looking at the quick reference guide to know what the buttons do. The remote performed poorly, unless I had it sitting right in front of the unit. There is no quick skip or quick back, so when you fast forward you end up going way past, then have to rewind. The one positive was it allowed you to change the screen ratios on the fly. This was a very usefull feature. The multi-media features were pretty good. But for Video it was a poor performer. Also, the composite video required a very tight connection to work. (I think it was a bad connection on the unit).

I think they have a long way to go before they will be ready for prime time or replace my ReplayTV. I rarely give up on a device after 25 minutes, but I lost my patience with this unit very quickly. Thank goodness I bought this on amazon.com, so returns are cake.
