Greylisting is da’bomb

no spam

Ok, I finally got around to installing Perl 5.8.8 with threading so I can install greylisting. Once I figured out the bug in the mysql.pm modules I was on my way. I knew it would be useful to install greylisting, but I didn’t realize HOW good it would be.

Before greylisting, I was getting about 1200 messages a day that were spam, about 900 of them filtered out by spamassassin. That would still lead to about 300 messages a day that would end up in my inbox.

After greylisting, I am now getting about 15 emails a day that are spam. about 99.99% of them are caught by spamassassin now. About one a week makes it through.

I don’t know what to do with all the free time I have now that I have no mail to read through 🙂

The Phoenix rises

Ok, so this has been a very bad seven days for me and my hardware karma. In a span of seven days, I had two machines at work die with bad power supplies, one system cpu die, my Large data drive on my mac mini start singing off key, my server’s motherboard at the colo take a dive.

I finally have everything back online. Fortunately everything was under warranty, but it was scary there for a moment. I am hoping this weekend will provide me with a better karma.

Found this Recipe Database program. Now I need a decent wine tracking software.

One part salt, one part SDGE

Because we are tired of smelling like a chlorine factory every time we get out of the spa we are going to add a salt system to our pool.

This takes basic table salt and turns it into Chlorine when you add electricity to the electrodes. Everyone that has one of these units loves them. We hope they will be worth the price.
