I have decided to go back to the default wordpress theme for now. I have found that basic things like link colors and image text wrapping do not work properly with the theme I have chosen.
I decided function over form, so until I find a suitable replacement I will use the default theme. I will have to re-add some of my side-bars, so bear with me until I migrate them over.

A new theme
Friday, August 12th, 2011A long time coming
Thursday, June 2nd, 2011Well, I can’t believe it’s been so long since I posted. Why? Because I have been so dang busy. I started my Masters program at SDSU, teaching part time at night and started a full time job last year.
I just finished my first semester and did well in both classes. I am taking the summer off. Teaching is going well. I have 4 classes I am teaching and working on developing a new system administrator curriculum.
We celebrated our 20th anniversary last month, but have postponed our annual trip because of schools. We plan to go back to Hawaii for our trip this year.
I did something very different for Memorial day weekend. I went to war! I was the camp cook for about 30 people and had a total blast. I met so many new people and friends I can’t wait to go again next year.
Happy meaning of life day!
Saturday, October 9th, 2010As the clock turns 0:00 I realize it is officially 10/10/10. For those of us that caught it, this is 42. For those non-geekish people in our life, 42-base(10) is 101010-base(2).
What do you plan to do on this momentous day? I plan to make a nice cup of tea.
Free Speech in America
Thursday, September 9th, 2010I have been reading of late the stories in the news that seem to be centered around the Muslim world that cry out “Death this” and “Death That” if we protest against their symbols of religion. The statement was made “it would have been tantamount to war” if their symbol was burned at the same time they are burning symbols of our Freedom.
I am reminded of a speech from the 1985 movie “The American President” that pretty much sums up how our constitution guarantees our freedom.
America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”.
This is as true today as it was 200 years ago. Freedom is not something you give someone. Freedom is something they must want and be willing to fight for. When I hear these statements about killing others for their beliefs it reminds me that they have no clue what it means to have Freedom or Free speech.
bogus bandwidth speed tests.
Sunday, July 18th, 2010I was re-wiring my network today and realized I had put a 10 mbps hub in between my cable modem and router. I use this in case I need to monitor traffic between my router and TWC. What was most interesting is that I had be told to run speed tests from http://speedtest.rrsan.com/ and was getting speeds in the range of 15-22mbps. Well clearly anyone with 1st grade math skills can see the problem here….
I intend to install a bandwidth throttler and see if I can figure out what is going on. What this has taught me is that I can’t believe their web site.
