Day 4 - Friday, May 19th

We both woke up for our exciting day at Fiesta Texas. This is an amusement park just outside of San Antonio that is owned by Six Flags. We got to the park about 10:00. The line into the park was not that bad. The bad thing was that on the way in was there were a large number of school buses entering the parking lot. And to top it all off, a woman had a beat up old car that died right at the gate. It was going to be a very crowded park with lots of kids.

We entered the park and went through metal detectors. Why is it that every six flags park we have been at treats their guest like criminals? We decided to hit the wooden roller coaster first. The rattler was a wonderful wooden roller coaster. The ride was very shaky and bouncy. The seats were very well padded so you did not get injured, but the feeling was quite intense. This was a very good choice to start the day off.

The next ride was BUGS' WHITE WATER RAPIDS™. We joined this rascally rabbit on a splashing journey through Medieval England and the "Black Knight's Castle." The Bugs' White Water Rapids was carefully themed to follow the only Academy Award-winning Bugs Bunny cartoon, "Knighty Knight Bugs," first enjoyed by audiences in 1958. The cartoon short features court jester Bugs Bunny, the Black Knight (Yosemite Sam) and his faithful fire-breathing dragon. We joined Bugs on his voyage through the Black Knight's castle and the escapade, traveling up three lifts and down two dramatic drops on this splashy, animated adventure. WARNING!!!!! You WILL get wet. The new thing with water rides is to charge patrons a quarter to shoot a jet of water at the riders when they pass by!

After this ride, we decided to go on another roller coaster. The next stop was Poltergeist. This is an all-new, state-of-the-art roller coaster that launches its passengers from 0 to 60 mph in a riveting 3.5 seconds. After braving this very fast ride we went to go look for some food. We had lunch at Lou's café. Angie had a pizza and I had a meatball sub sandwich. The food was pretty good, and not too overpriced. After lunch we decided to relax and ride the WHISTLE STOP ride. This was a neat train ride. The conductor told the same story over and over for each trip. It was cute and corny.

Now it was time to head on to the next roller coaster. The next ride was BOOMERANG. This was a roller coaster that went out, looped, two corkscrews, and then came back the same way. It was pretty cool. The only problem was it was the longest line of the day. Almost 45 minutes. The park was really crowded now. I guess all of the kids from all the schools have arrived.

We decided to go watch the show ROCKIN' AT ROCKVILLE HIGH. If you go to the park, don't miss the energetic, fun and zany musical production, "Rockin' at Rockville High." This acclaimed '50s extravaganza features your favorite high-school students, Bobby, Penny, Reggie and the gang, as they prepare for a TV talent show. Voted top theme park show for four years, this Fiesta Texas classic is a must-see for all rock-and-roll nostalgia lovers. The auditorium was nice and cool. This was a nice change from the warm weather outside.

The next ride was JOKER'S REVENGE. This roller coaster twists and turns. It is evident that someone with a strange sense of humor has taken over this ride. Guests won't forget the psychedelic upside-down room or the exciting hall of mirrors where The Joker might be waiting. This is also a backwards roller coaster, too cool!

The next ride is POWER SURGE. This is a water ride that basically takes you up a hill and drops you down into a large pool of water. You don't get that wet on this ride, but the people standing on the bridge you go under get soaked. Also as you leave the ride if you do not time your bridge crossing right, you could get soaked as well.

Next was the newest ride in the park, SUPERMAN. Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive... It's Superman Krypton Coaster! This hair-raising thrill ride is the largest steel and only floorless coaster in the Southwest. Fly through over 4000 feet of twists, turns, spiral loops, and corkscrews at 70 miles an hour all without a floor underneath you. This was an incredible ride. I am always amazed at how smooth these rides are. There was this woman sitting next to us solo. Must have been about 45 years old. She kept saying: "I don't think this was a good idea." After the ride was over, she said it was wonderful. I think this was Angie's favorite ride at the park.

We then wanted to cool off so we went on BUGS' WHITE WATER RAPIDS™ again. This time the line was way long. There were a ton of kids in line. I forgot how loud a bunch of unsupervised kids could be.

After this we went on the DORNROESCHEN. This was a very cool looking merry go round ride. I rode a horse and Angie rode a cat. After the ride we got some strawberry lemonade to drink. This was a sort of like a slushy. While we were in line to get our drink, the vendor mentioned that they would probably close the coasters because of lightning in the area. Lightning?

The GULLY WASHER was closed all day. We walked by and it was open so we got in line. The line to get to the ride was long, not people long, walking long. As we headed in, people were walking back out the line. They closed the ride. BIG BUMMER! It appears to have started raining, then it did something we are NOT used to; the sky opened up and poured. There was some cool lightning as well. This rain was hard and it hurt. We decided it was time to leave. It was really funny to see scores of school kids running and screaming through the rain trying to not get wet. We made it back to the car, but we got totally soaked. As we headed out, the freeways were a mess. We asked our trusty neverlost to take us back not using the freeways. It did a pretty good job. It lead us astray once, but got us back to where we needed to be.

When we got back we changed out of our wet clothes. The Padres were winning 4-0 in the first. It was now time to eat, so we went downstairs to Ibiza. We had their Texas nachos. These were triangle tortillas with beans and cheese on them. They were bite size. Not what we expected, but still good. I had pasta primavera and Angie had fettuccini Alfredo. We both shared a cheesecake with strawberries.

It was still raining after dinner. We decided to go back to the room. The Padres still had the lead and we headed off to bed.
