Glacier Bay National Park

Today we could actually sleep in until 09:00. We arrived into Glacier Bay National Park. We listened to a National Park Services guide talk about the glaciers and the history of the region. There was definitely a difference between the naturalist and the park services person. The park service guide knew how to speak and keep their audiences attention.

We got up and walked around the deck to look at the glacier. It was quite cold out and it was drizzling. We decided to go have breakfast. The only place with breakfast was the Lido buffet. We grabbed a table by the window, so we could see the glacier. While we were eating, the National Park Services guides came into the buffet. I was pleased to find out that they would be opening an information booth up in the crows nest AND they would have their National Park stamp. We were both happy that we could get our passport book stamped.

After breakfast we walked around the ship and then went up to the crows nest. We stamped our passport, then we went out on deck. It was still drizzling, so Angie went back to the cabin to get our rain gear. After we were outfitted, we walked around the deck taking photo's and video of the glaciers.

The glaciers are quite beautiful, unfortunately we did not see any calving. I guess it is not as common this time of year. I am glad we saw some impressive calving at the Portage Glacier and the College Fjords. I would have hated to come home without ever seeing any.

At dinner it was Mike's birthday. We all sang him happy birthday. His daughter sent him a bottle of champagne so we all had a toast after dinner.
